Pastor Ben was born and raised in Greenville, SC. He was raised in a Christian family and accepted Christ as Savior in his bedroom at 13 years of age. Upon graduation from high school, Ben joined the United States Marine Corps Reserve and enjoyed serving his country as a Marine from 1993 to 2004, when he transitioned to active duty in the Navy as a Chaplain. While serving in the Marine Corps Reserve, Ben earned a B.A. degree in Pastoral Studies and served as youth pastor at Crosswell First Baptist Church in Greenville SC. In 2004, he completed a Master of Divinity degree from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, and after graduation was accepted as an active duty Navy Chaplain in 2005.
From 2005 through 2013, Pastor Ben served as base chaplain at Naval Support Activity Panama City Florida then at Marine Aircraft Group 39, Camp Pendleton CA where he deployed to Iraq. He then served onboard the USS George Washington aircraft carrier in Yokosuka, Japan, and finished his active duty time as the Group Chaplain for Coastal Riverine Group One and Explosive Ordnance Disposal Group One in Imperial Beach and Coronado, CA.
After returning from Japan, Ben and his wife, Beth, began attending Valley Baptist Church. Upon learning that his time on active duty in the Navy was coming to an end, Ben was approached by Pastor Gunnar about serving at Valley Baptist Church. After much prayer, they accepted the invitation and came on staff in 2014. Pastor Ben’s passion is to see people grow in their relationship with Christ through teaching, discipleship and personal pastoral counsel, and we are looking forward to him being able to expand the pastoral ministry to our growing congregation.
Ben and his wife Beth have been married since 1996. Beth is also from Greenville SC and was raised in a Christian home. They met and began dating their junior year of high school. In 2013, they welcomed their first child, Bradley Zane into their family.
